Leveraging its thirty-year coverage of the IT marketplace, CONTEXT offers a fresh perspective to the 3D printing marketplace. As more and more professional and desktop 3D printing companies look to leverage IT distribution to target their offerings toward education, architecture, engineering and small-and-medium businesses and large businesses alike, more and more synergies are seen each day with the long-standing IT market place. Nowhere is this more evidenced than by the forthcoming entrance of IT stalwarts into the 3D printing marketplace. CONTEXT has offered detailed insights, data and forecasts for the IT distribution markets for three decades and leverages this experience to now offer a global perspective on top of this historical channel-centric view of various markets. Chris Connery leads this effort for CONTEXT with over a quarter-of-a-century of experience in brand management, marketing and industry analysis of various aspects of the IT market. Prior to joining CONTEXT in 2015, Connery lead a similar effort for NPD’s Technology Analyst Business in its global research and consulting efforts for additive manufacturing and 3D printing. Connery first became exposed to 3D printing (then called rapid prototyping or additive manufacturing) in the 1990s when developing notebook PCs where it was used as a tool to prototype new housings for PCs. The 3D printing space continues to evolve from a technology focused primarily on prototyping, to one now beginning to be used as an end-market production tool, a trend Connery continues to watch closely.
